Troubleshooting the 'Your account doesn't allow editing on a Mac' Error

Mac users still prefer to use the Microsoft Office software suite when it comes to editing documents, working with spreadsheets, or other files supported by Microsoft Office. However, some Mac users appear to encounter an annoying error saying 'Your account doesn't allow editing on a Mac.' Typically, this happens because there was a problem verifying the validity of your Microsoft Office registration. Thankfully, this is not a permanent issue, and there are some simple troubleshooting steps that you can perform to try and solve it.
Check that your Microsoft Office Subscription is Active
It is possible that your Office 365 subscription might have expired and you are not aware of it. To check if this is the issue, head to Portal.office.com and access your account. Go to My Account -> Subscription Panel, and then see if Office 365 is active. If it is not there, then it has either expired, or you are using an account without a subscription.
Fixing by Removing Potentially Corrupted Files
Microsoft has identified an issue, which may trigger the 'Your account doesn't allow editing on a Mac' Error because of corrupted files. The fix is simple but time-consuming because you will need to manually open each app part of your Microsoft Office suite, log out of your account, and close it. Once you do this, you need to:
- Open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder.
- Type in '~/Library' and press Go.
- Select the 'Group Containers' folder.
- Delete these files UBF8T346G9.ms, UBF8T346G9.Office, UBF8T346G9.OfficeOsfWebHost and empty the trash.
Reopen Office apps and log in to your Microsoft account.
