Chily Ransomware Uses HTML Ransom Note
A new ransomware was discovered by researchers in late November called the Chily ransomware.
Chily does nothing spectacular or very different from other ransomware variants. It will encrypt most files on your computer and leave their contents scrambled. Encrypted file types include the usual - documents, media files, archives and databases will all be encrypted.
Once encrypted, files receive a new extension made up of the contact email used by the ransomware author. This will turn a file named "document.doc" into "document.doc.[Chily@Dr.Com]".
The ransom note is delivered inside a .hta file containing dynamic HTML. Along with this, the wallpaper will be changed by the ransomware as well. The ransom note file is called "Read Me.Hta" and contains the following text:
All your files have been encrypted!
All your files have been encrypted due to a security problem with your PC.
If you want to restore them, write us to the e-mails: chily at tuta dot io and Chily at Dr dot Com and chily65 at proton dot me
