Why You Should Avoid The 'Avira Security' Pop-Up Scam

computer scam

Our investigation revealed a malicious scam known as the "Avira Security" scam. This scheme is presented as the Avira anti-virus which claims to detect numerous dangers on users' computers. It is important to note that this content is completely fabricated and has nothing to do with the legitimate Avira Operations GmbH.

The "Avira Security" scam appears in the form of a fake system scan which alerts people of various threats present on their device, such as Chrome being hacked 110 times, 71 privacy breaches, 3 malware infections and so forth. All these warnings are false and have no connection to the genuine Avira brand. Additionally, it is impossible for any website to detect issues on visitors' systems; hence, any site that advertises such services is fraudulent.

This kind of scam typically promotes unreliable programs like fake anti-viruses, adware, browser hijackers or PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications). We even uncovered cases where scammers distributed trojans, ransomware and other malware via these schemes. In certain instances, they might redirect users to official websites of valid software or services; however, this promotion is carried out by criminals exploiting affiliate programs for illicit commissions.

What Are the Most Common Social Engineering Tricks Scammers Use?

Scammers commonly use social engineering tricks to obtain personal information from unsuspecting victims. These tricks can range from impersonation of legitimate organizations or individuals, to phishing emails, phone calls and text messages. Scammers may also use fake websites, links and ads that appear to come from a trusted source in order to deceive users into providing sensitive information.

Common tactics include luring victims with offers of free goods or services, creating urgency with threats of account closure, or promising rewards for completing surveys. Additionally, scammers often employ psychological manipulation techniques such as fear appeals or intimidation in order to pressure victims into giving up their personal data.ю

Why Can an Online Page Never Know the Security Status of Your System?

An online page can never know the security status of a visitor's system because it is not physically connected to their device. Online pages cannot detect threats or issues present on visitors' systems because they do not have access to a user's data and hardware. Therefore, any website that claims to be able to scan for viruses or detect various problems on a user's device is likely a scam.
