MNX ransomware yra naujas klonas, praplečiantis išpirkos reikalaujančių programų variantų „Phobos“ šeimą.
MNX elgiasi iš esmės kaip kiti naujausi Phobos klonai. Jis užšifruos failus prijungtuose sistemos diskuose ir paprašys išpirkos.
Šifruotų failų pavadinimas keičiamas, nes MNX išpirkos reikalaujanti programa prideda ilgą naują plėtinį, kurį sudaro vartotojo ID eilutė, įsilaužėlių naudojamas el. pašto adresas ir ".MNX" eilutė. Failas pavadinimu „image.jpg“ pavirs į „image.jpg.id[aukos ID].[decrypt@techie.com].MNX“.
Užkrėstoje sistemoje bus šifruojami įprasti failų tipai – dokumentai, medijos failai, archyvai ir duomenų bazės.
Kai išpirkos reikalaujanti programa baigs šifruoti sistemą, ji panaikins išpirkos reikalavimus dviejuose failuose, pavadintuose „info.txt“ ir „info.hta“. HTA failas rodomas iššokančiame lange ir jame yra išsamesnė išpirkos rašto versija, kuri skamba taip:
