How to Remove the Lmas Ransomware

Ransomware

The Lmas Ransomware is a file-locker that must be stopped at all costs. If it gets the ability to access your hard drive's contents, it may immediately encrypt some of your most valuable files and then use them as leverage to extort you for money. Lmas Ransomware's creators claim to have a working decryptor, which victims can purchase for $490. However, they also threaten to ramp up the price if the victim does not pay on time – a common scare tactic that cybercriminals use.

The Lmas Ransomware is a variant of the STOP Ransomware project – neither of these threats are compatible with free decryption tools, and falling victim to their attack will always put you in a very unfortunate situation. The only reliable way to recover files that the Lmas Ransomware damages is to restore their original copies from a recent backup.

The files the ransomware damages will have the suffix '.lmas' added to their name. The threat will also drop the '_readme.txt' ransom message to the desktop to provide the victim with more details about the attack. According to the ransom note, victims need to send an email to helpteam@mail.ch or helpmanager@airmail.cc for help.

You can rest assured that trying to send money to cybercriminals is not a good way to try and recover your files. Even if you fulfill their demands, it is unlikely that they will end up providing you with a decryption service. Many ransomware victims have been scammed out of their money after paying, and there is a significant chance that the same will happen with victims of the Lmas Ransomware.

If this ransomware has taken over your system, you should ignore the message of the extortionists. Instead, run an anti-malware scanner to get rid of the Lmas Ransomware, and then restore files from a backup, or try out popular data recovery tools.
