HSBC - Payment Swift Copy Email Scam

Following an examination of the email titled "HSBC - Payment Swift Copy," it has been determined that this email is, in fact, spam. Disguised as a notification from HSBC regarding a payment, the main intent of this message is to deceive recipients into divulging their email account login credentials (specifically, passwords) by directing them to a phishing website.

The fraudulent email, which may carry the subject "Payment Receipt Sent" or a similar variation, informs recipients of an attached copy of a swift payment issued to their account at the request of the bank's customer. It is signed by a department of HSBC and includes an image of a counterfeit attachment.

It is crucial to emphasize that this unsolicited email is in no way associated with the legitimate HSBC Holdings plc universal bank and financial services group, the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (Swift), or any other reputable entities.

When an attempt is made to access the deceptive attachment, it leads to a phishing website. This page displays a blurry document bearing the HSBC logo, with an overlaid pop-up masquerading as an Adobe Reader dialog box, prompting the user to log in to view the payment.

Any login credentials entered on this phishing site will be captured and transmitted to malicious actors. Consequently, the victim is at risk of losing access to their email account and potentially compromising the content stored within it.
