During our analysis of newly submitted files, we came across an application called DefaultWindow. This application is categorized as adware and is designed to deliver intrusive advertising campaigns. It is important to note that DefaultWindow may possess additional harmful capabilities and belongs to the AdLoad malware family.

Adware functions by displaying advertisements on various platforms, such as visited webpages and desktop interfaces. These ads can take the form of pop-ups, banners, overlays, coupons, surveys, and more.

The purpose of these advertisements is to endorse online scams, unreliable or hazardous software, and potentially even malware. Some of these intrusive ads have the ability to execute scripts that initiate downloads or installations without obtaining user permission.

In certain cases, if the user's browser or system is incompatible, specific websites are not visited, or other conditions are unsuitable, the adware may not display intrusive ad campaigns. However, even if DefaultWindow does not exhibit advertisements, its presence on a system still poses a threat to device and user security.

Considering that AdLoad adware is known to have browser-hijacking capabilities, it is possible that DefaultWindow possesses similar traits, although it did not demonstrate such behavior during our testing.

DefaultWindow is likely to collect sensitive information as is common with adware. This includes URLs visited, viewed webpages, search queries, internet cookies, login credentials such as usernames and passwords, personally identifiable details, credit card numbers, and more. The collected information can be monetized through its sale to third parties.
