Remove DECcenter Ransomware

In recent weeks, antivirus products have identified an alarmingly high number of new variants of the VoidCrypt family. But what is VoidCrypt? This is a ransomware family, which showed up in 2020 and, unfortunately, it seems to still be very active. The DECcenter Ransomware is the latest name to join the ranks of TRUST Ransomware, Douarix Ransomware, and other VoidCrypt variants.

When this file-encryption Trojan infects a system, it focuses on just one thing – damaging the victim's files, and then limiting their recovery options. The damage is done by using a secure file-encryption algorithm to lock the contents of the files. The ransomware will also tag the names of the damaged files by using the extension '.[Decryptioncenter2016@gmail.com][<VICTIM ID>].DECcenter.' It also tries to limit data recovery options by deleting System Restore points and Shadow Volume Copies.

DECcenter Ransomware's attack is very swift – this file-locker needs just a few minutes to fulfill its goals. After this, it creates the ransom note 'Decrypt-info.txt' and leaves it in a visible place – the desktop. This file reveals more details about the attack. According to it, victims must pay a ransom fee through Bitcoin and contact either decryptioncenter2016@gmail.com or backupcenter2016@gmail.com for more information. Surprisingly, the criminals are using Gmail, which might mean that they are amateurs – Google is likely to take down these addresses in a matter of days, making it impossible for the hackers to get in touch with their victims.

DECcenter Ransomware Ransom Note

If you are considering accepting the offer of the criminals, then we advise you not to do it. The criminals may take your money without giving you the decryptor you were promised. In some cases, they may also ask you to send them more money after the first transaction – a scam to drain as much money as possible from their victims.

Instead of trusting them, you should run a suitable malware removal tool. Once you do this, you will prevent DECcenter Ransomware from damaging more files. After this, you can run popular data recovery tools or research other options to restore your files.
