ActivateOptimization Adware
ActivateOptimization is a piece of adware that is part of the AdLoad family of adware variants that work on Macs.
ActivateOptimization will exhibit a number of features that make it part browser hijacker, part adware. It can inject ads into the pages you browse while online or display them as pop-ups. The adware does that by changing your browser's settings.
Ad-supported software or adware will often partner up with rogue advertising networks and this can be a serious problem. Ads that originate from rogue ad networks will not only slow down your loading times but may also link to questionable content, misleading websites and scams. With that in mind, it’s easy to imagine why adware and similar applications are classified as potentially unwanted apps.
ActivateOptimization, similar to all other AdLoad clones we've covered in the past few weeks, uses a simple icon that is designed to help the app stay hidden. Thankfully, removal is very easy, as the adware doesn't have any persistence established on the system. All you need to do to remove it is drag it onto your Trash and empty Trash.
