AMD RX Series Graphics Card Dropping Signal to Monitor Issue

With its offerings over the past few years, AMD has managed to regain its foothold in the discrete GPU market and really go toe to toe with NVidia. As with all hardware, though, there are potential issues that can crop up with your AMD GPU. One of those is your monitor not receiving any input signal from your GPU.

This article will give you a few helpful tips if you are struggling with frequent signal loss from your graphics card to your monitor.

  1. Make sure all your cable connections are good

A loosely fitted signal or power cable can cause outages in your monitor's picture. Old or worn-out power cables can easily come a bit loose and cause your monitor to go dark for a while, tricking you into thinking it's the GPU's fault, while the cause is simply a poor power connection.

Your signal cable, whether you are using HDMI or DisplayPort, can also cause signal loss if fitted poorly. If you have a VESA mount and move your monitor around a lot, this can also cause loose connections at the monitor's input port. Make sure all connections are good and there is no loose play.

Finally, with a VESA mount and a strange spatial setup that puts a lot of strain on your cables over long periods of time, your signal cable may deteriorate and cause signal loss. Try using a new HDMI or DisplayPort, depending on your chosen type and the capabilities of your monitor.

  1. Use a monitor that has a dedicated power supply

Smaller displays that are HDMI or USB powered can cause a lot of issues with power draw. Try connecting a monitor with a dedicated power cable that plugs into a regular socket and see if the issue persists.

  1. Update your drivers and AMD Radeon Software app

If you have an AMD GPU already in place and running, chances are you already have the AMD Radeon Software app installed as well. You can use the app to update your drivers to the latest version.

Right click your desktop and click AMD Radeon Software at the top of the dropdown menu. Click the "Home" menu item, then click the arrow icon on the right of the "Driver & Software" panel in the upper right corner of the window. This will open a new screen where you will be able to simply click "Install" and the system will automatically install your new GPU driver.

It is recommended to go for a custom install and select the "Clean install" option.

This will take care of most issues with your AMD RX series GPU dropping signal to your monitor.
