'Xerox Scanned Document' Email Scam
Email scammers constantly evolve their schemes to try out new methods to steal data from their victims. One of the latest versions of such as a scam is the so called 'Xerox Scanned Document' con. Its recipients appear to be chosen randomly, and the target is told that they have received a new document on the Microsoft Exchange Portal. Supposedly, it was scanned through a Xerox WorkCentre Multifunction Device, and users must click the Retrieve Document link to download it.
However, the Retrieve Document button leads users to a bogus phishing page that has been designed to look like the Microsoft Outlook portal. The target is prompted to enter their login credentials for Outlook. However, if they do this, they will not access their inbox or the document the email claimed to have delivered – instead, they will unknowingly reveal their username and password to online criminals.
The 'Xerox Scanned Document' Email Scam is likely to target office workers, so they are the group that should be paying extra attention to their incoming emails. If an email message ever links you to a website that asks you to enter login credentials, then we advise you not to do it. In the case of the 'Xerox Scanned Document' Email Scam, head to the Microsoft Outlook portal by typing the address manually, and then check if there is a file waiting for you.
