Remove TCYO Ransomware

The Dharma Ransomware family continues to be one of the most prominent threats online. Cybercriminals continue to use it to craft dangerous file-lockers like the TCYO Ransomware. This particular Trojan is spread online with the help of phishing emails, fake downloads, and other misleading content. You certainly do not want to come across it without sufficient protection – it just needs a few minutes to cause long-lasting damage to your data. Another file-locker variant that does the same is the Myday Ransomware.

The TCYO Ransomware's attack is easy to spot. However, it is too late to stop it once you notice the consequences. As soon as a victim launches this ransomware, it will proceed to scan their hard drive and encrypt files. Any file it encrypts will also experience a minor name change – the extension will be set to 'id-<VICTIM ID>.[yourfiles1@cock.li].TCYO.'

Just like other ransomware operators, these ones also give the victim instructions. In the case of the TCYO Ransomware, these are in the 'FILES ENCRYPTED.txt' file. It tells the victim to message either yourfiles1@cock.li or tcprx@tutanota.de for details. The note also includes the victim ID, as well as advice not to use 3rd-party data restoration tools. The latter warning is common for ransomware attacks, and you should never fall for it. The criminals simply want to discourage users from trying alternative data recovery options. There will be no consequences if you try to restore the files on your own.

TCYO Ransomware Ransom Note

Unfortunately, the TCYO Ransomware is not compatible with free decryptors. However, this should not discourage you from trying to fix the issue. Paying money to the attackers is a terrible idea, and you should not entertain it. Instead, run an antivirus scanner to dispose of the threat. After this, restore files from a backup, or explore other data recovery utilities.
