Remove Rugi Ransomware

ransomware

The Rugi Ransomware is a file-encryption Trojan that could cause potentially irreversible damage to your files. This threat belongs to the STOP/Djvu family of file-encryption Trojans. Unfortunately, this ransomware family has been around for over two years, and none of its variants are decryptable for free. The newest one is not an exception either, and its victims might need to resort to alternative data recovery options that do not always deliver good results.

The Rugi Ransomware marks the files it locks with the suffix '.rugi.' It then drops the ransom note '_readme.txt' which provides the victim with additional information about the attack. According to its contents:

  • Users need to pay $490 for a decryption service. This fee is only valid for 72 hours, and it will be doubled after this.
  • The attackers can be messaged at manager@mailtemp.ch or supporthelp@airmail.cc.
  • Victims can send one of their files for free decryption. However, it must be small, and must not contain valuable data.

We advise you not to trust the criminals behind the attack. They ask for the payment to be completed via Bitcoin, which would make the transaction untraceable and impossible to cancel. This would make it easy for them to scam you out of your money.

Victims of the Rugi Ransomware should use an anti-malware tool to terminate the malicious software, and then try out popular data recovery options. The best version is to use an up-to-date backup, but some 3rd-partydata recovery tools might also be of help.
