'Loyalty Program' Scam Uses Fake Prizes to Phish Visitors
There is yet another scam making the rounds online, this time called simply the "Loyalty program" scam.
The gist of the scam is simple - visitors who land on websites and domains running the scam are offered to take a survey and are told they are among the "lucky" 10 daily visitors chosen to win an expensive phone. As with every single scam of this kind and every single ransom web page that promises expensive gifts and rewards for no apparent reason, this too is a scam.
In order to claim the fake prize, visitors are asked to take a "survey". Attempting to do so only takes visitors to a dedicated phishing page that will harvest all kinds of personal information from the user who is still hoping they "will be rewarded 100%", as the scam page claims.
Personal information fed into the phishing forms will certainly be stolen and then could be abused in a number of ways, some scarier than others, ranging from being re-sold to third parties, to being used for impersonation and fraud.
When you see similar pages, telling you you are "today's lucky visitor" and promising you expensive free gifts, simply close your browser and walk away. Remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch.
