Find Unclaimed Airdrops Scam

Our team found that this is a deceptive scheme masquerading as a platform that claims to assist in discovering cryptocurrency airdrops (free distribution of cryptocurrency tokens or coins). The primary aim of this fraudulent operation is to fraudulently acquire cryptocurrency from unsuspecting individuals, and as such, it is recommended to disregard it.

This fraudulent activity is promoted through posts on X (formerly namedTwitter). Clicking on the links within these posts directs users to a deceptive webpage (operating under the name Alnetos) that promises to uncover unclaimed airdrops. According to this webpage, users can receive notifications for new cryptocurrency airdrops, emphasizing that billions of dollars are distributed in airdrops to early cryptocurrency users.

The website also states that a platform named Alnetos will scrutinize all provided addresses and inform users if they qualify for any airdrop rewards. Users are advised to exercise caution and check the legitimacy of such platforms before disclosing any sensitive information, as following the instructions on the page can result in financial losses.

By adhering to the outlined instructions on this webpage, especially during the process of linking a cryptocurrency wallet, users inadvertently grant authorization to a malicious smart contract embedded with a draining code. Once access is obtained, this drainer code initiates unauthorized transactions, leading to a depletion of the user's digital assets.

It is noteworthy that over ten thousand phishing websites utilizing this drainer were identified from March 2023 to the present, with notable spikes in malicious activity during May, June, and November.

How Can You Tell a Crypto-Focused Page is a Scam?

Identifying whether a crypto-focused page is a scam requires careful examination and awareness of common red flags associated with fraudulent activities in the cryptocurrency space. Here are key indicators that may suggest a crypto-focused page is a scam:

Too Good to Be True Offers:
Be cautious of pages that promise unrealistically high returns on investments or claim to offer guaranteed profits. If an opportunity seems too good to be true, it likely is.

Lack of Information about the Team:
Legitimate cryptocurrency projects typically provide information about their team members, including their backgrounds and expertise. A lack of transparency about the team behind the project could be a red flag.

Unsolicited Offers and Messages:
Be wary of unsolicited messages or emails promoting cryptocurrency investments. Scammers often use spam and phishing techniques to target potential victims.

Pressure to Act Quickly:
Scams often create a sense of urgency, pressuring individuals to act quickly without proper consideration. Genuine opportunities allow users to make informed decisions at their own pace.

Unverified or Nonexistent Social Media Presence:
Legitimate crypto projects usually have an active and verified presence on social media platforms. Check for official accounts with a significant following. Lack of a verifiable social media presence may raise suspicions.

Inconsistencies in Whitepapers or Documentation:
If the project provides a whitepaper or technical documentation, carefully review it for inconsistencies, unrealistic promises, or technical flaws. Legitimate projects maintain thorough and well-structured documentation.

Fake Endorsements and Reviews:
Be cautious of pages that claim endorsements from well-known individuals or entities without verifiable evidence. Similarly, fake positive reviews can be a sign of a scam.
