Remove FatalRAT
Remote Access Trojans (RATs) are one of the top tools in the arsenal of cybercriminals. They usually pack a wide range of features, which could enable the operator of the malware to spy on victims, steal data, modify system settings, and do much more. Recently, cybersecurity researchers came across a previously unknown RAT sample. The threat, dubbed FatalRAT, appears to be distributed via Telegram. Fake profiles and groups are publishing download links, which claim to lead the user to an interesting piece of software or media – however, they end up downloading the FatalRAT.
Of course, users will not be aware that the file they downloaded and tried opening is malicious. The only way to spot the dangers that the file hides is to keep your system protected by a reliable anti-malware application – unfortunately, many users continue to underestimate the importance of online safety, and they have not taken the necessary measures to secure their systems. If the FatalRAT ends up being launched successfully, it will try to disguise its presence by hijacking the names and folders of legitimate Windows components, therefore making it difficult for users to distinguish real from fake files.
While the FatalRAT is working, the criminal may be able to:
- Execute remote commands.
- View, download, and edit files.
- Upload/download additional malware.
- Access the Web camera or microphone.
- Take screenshots.
These features are more than enough to grant FatalRAT's operators almost full control over the compromised system. Prevent this from happening by investing in reputable antivirus software.
