Besteasyclick.com Pushes Ads Using Fake Anti-Bot Check

alerts pop-ups

While investigating untrustworthy websites, our researchers came across the besteasyclick.com rogue page. This particular webpage engages in the promotion of browser notification spam and redirects visitors to other websites that are likely unreliable or hazardous in nature.

Users typically encounter pages like besteasyclick.com through redirects initiated by websites that employ rogue advertising networks.

The behavior exhibited by rogue webpages, including the content they host or promote, may vary depending on the IP address or geolocation of the visitor.

During our research, we discovered that the besteasyclick.com page employed a deceptive tactic of using a fake CAPTCHA verification to prompt browser notifications. The webpage displayed an image of a robot alongside text instructing users to "Click Allow if you are not a robot." If visitors were deceived by these instructions, they unintentionally granted besteasyclick.com permission to display notifications, which often included ads.

Upon clicking the "Allow" button, we were redirected to a type of website commonly used to promote adware, browser hijackers, potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), and other dubious software.

Rogue websites exploit their ability to send browser notifications to conduct intrusive advertising campaigns. These advertisements endorse online scams, untrustworthy or harmful software, and even malware. As a result, users who encounter pages like besteasyclick.com may experience system infections, serious privacy issues, financial losses, and even become victims of identity theft.

What Are the Typical Signs of a Fake Anti-Bot Check?

There are several signs that can help identify a fake anti-bot check on a website. Here are some typical indicators to watch out for:

  • Unusual or irrelevant challenges: Fake anti-bot checks often present users with unusual or irrelevant challenges that don't align with the purpose of the website. For example, asking users to solve complex puzzles or riddles when accessing a simple news article would be suspicious.
  • Poor design and inconsistencies: Fake anti-bot checks may exhibit poor design elements or inconsistencies in their appearance. This can include mismatched fonts, low-resolution images, distorted graphics, or poorly aligned elements. These visual inconsistencies can be a red flag.
  • Excessive or unnecessary requests: Legitimate anti-bot checks typically require minimal information or action from users, such as clicking a checkbox or selecting specific images. If you encounter an anti-bot check that asks for excessive personal information or unnecessary actions, it may be a sign of a fake.
  • Unusual language or grammar errors: Fake anti-bot checks might include language that seems unusual or contains frequent grammar errors. This can be an indication that the check was hastily put together or created by non-native English speakers.
  • Lack of official branding or trusted indicators: Legitimate websites often incorporate official branding or trusted indicators, such as company logos, security seals, or SSL certificates. If an anti-bot check lacks these elements or includes unfamiliar logos, it could be a fake.
  • Overly aggressive or urgent messages: Fake anti-bot checks may use aggressive or urgent language to pressure users into completing the check quickly. They may claim that failure to comply will result in restricted access or account suspension. Legitimate anti-bot checks usually maintain a calm and professional tone.
