Google Meet Camera not Working
Google Meet is a popular video conferencing tool and service, which is preferred by many schools, organizations, and employers around the world. However, users may need to tamper with its configuration a bit to try and get their microphone and camera working and, unfortunately, this might not always end in success. If your Google Meet camera is not working, then here are some popular fixes that you can try:
Make Sure your Camera is Connected
If you are using an external Web camera, then make sure that the USB cable is properly connected and that it has not suffered any damage. Next, try to see if other software on your computer is able to identify and use the camera – FaceTime, Zoom, etc. If the camera works in other applications, then this is certainly not a hardware issue and, instead, it is a problem with Google Meet's settings.
Is Google Meet Allowed to use the Camera?
You must allow Google Meet to access your camera. Typically, this is enabled by default on Windows, but you will need to manually configure the setting on Mac. Go to Apple Menu -> System Preferences -> Security & Privacy. Select the Camera tab and then make sure that Google Chrome is checked.
Update your Web Browser
An outdated Web browser may cause problems when trying to connect to your Web camera. Use the browser menu to check for updates, and apply any pending patches.
Check Chrome Settings
Chrome might be preventing certain websites from accessing the camera. Open Google Chrome, and go to the address chrome://settings/content/camera. Disable the option Ask Before Accessing, and then see if https://meet.google.com:443 is listed below. Delete it, restart Google Chrome, and try to launch Google Meet again. When prompted to allow access to the camera, accept.
