'ELON MUSK Twitter Giveaway' Scam Fishes for Victims
There is yet another online scam that is attempting to siphon cryptocurrency out of the wallets of naive victims.
The latest scam is trying to capitalize on the latest barrage of news related to the upcoming Elon Musk acquisition of Twitter. The scam has a Twitter account to go with it, trying to impersonate Elon Musk. The website used to push the scam also has a photo of the man himself, even though the page and its owners have nothing to do with Elon Musk or any of his companies.
The scam uses the tried bait of "send X crypto, get 2X back". The scammers expect victims to send crypto to their wallets willingly, in the hopes that the sum will be doubled.
Of course, it should be obvious from a mile away that this is a scam, despite the relatively polished website used to push the scam. The promise of free crypto would not have been so blatantly fake had it been more sensible, but the scammers are promising potential victims up to 50,000 ETH for free, which should trigger an alarm bell for anyone.
If you do run into the page at musk-event dot info that is used to push the scam, have a laugh at it, then simply close it and walk away.
