Apple Music not Working on Mac
Apple Music is one of the most popular music and video streaming services, with over 70,000,000 subscribers. It is compatible with all popular mobile and desktop operating systems. Using Apple Music is certainly great compared to its predecessor, iTunes. It is much more convenient and well-performing – unfortunately, it is 100% free of bugs. While Apple Music is working, it can be great to use – but what do you do when it bugs out? If Apple Music is not working on your Mac, then here are some of the fixes you can try to apply.
Some of the issues that users often complain about are – Apple Music not starting at all, or being unable to load their playlists and content. In other cases, users report that Apple Music is failing to synchronize their playlists across devices.
Apple Music is not Playing Music – What to do?
If you are encountering this issue, then there are some simple troubleshooting steps to try out. The first and most basic thing is to head to https://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/. This is Apple's official website that provides information about the status of their services. If Apple Music is not green, then the issue you are experiencing might be server-side. You will need to wait until Apple resolves it.
If everything with Apple's servers is fine, then here is what to try next:
- Update/resync your music library. Open Apple Music and go to File -> Library -> Update Cloud Library.
- Restart the application or your Mac – this seems to help many users.
- Check for system updates and apply them. Go to Apple Menu- About this Mac -> Software Update. Keeping your operating system and software up-to-date can eliminate issues like Apple Music not working.
- Sign out of your account, and then sign back in. Go to System Preferences -> Apple ID -> Sign Out. Then, sign back in and re-open Apple Music.
- Move your Music Library temporarily. If this file has become corrupted, it may cause all sorts of bugs. To do this, open Finder -> Music and move the file Music Library. Re-open the Apple Music
The last-ditch effort to try is to reset the cache of Apple Music/iTunes. You can do this by going to the folders ~/Library/ and ~/Library/Caches and deleting files containing Music or iTunes. Alternatively, we have a more detailed guide at How to Reset iTunes Library on Mac.
