Winalert.net Tries to Push Intrusive Ads

Winalert dot net is a misleading website that will use simple tricks to mislead users into allowing the page to push intrusive ads to their browser.

The way you would usually land on pages similar to Winalert dot net is by following a rogue ad on a different site. Once on the site in question, you would be greeted with a mostly blank page, showing cute images of a man and a robot. This is accompanied by large text urging the user to click "allow" to verify they are not a robot.

Anyone who has passed any legitimate anti-bot check on other, normal pages should be able to spot the hoax quickly. The page at Winalert dot net will simply display the browser's default "allow notifications" dialog and clicking allow in this will not prove you are not a bot, it will simply allow the website to push intrusive and potentially dangerous ads into your browser.

A lot of those ads may be sourced from rogue ad networks, which means they can redirect to unsafe websites, other misleading pages, or potentially unwanted apps.

When you run into similar pages, with a random string of words as their domain name, asking you to allow notifications, the best thing you can do is just close your browser immediately, without clicking any elements on the page.
