Wwpl is a Ransomware Variant Based on Djvu

A new ransomware variant based on Djvu code was discovered, called Wwpl. After infiltrating a computer, this ransomware encrypts data and appends the ".wwpl" extension to file names. For example, a file originally named "1.jpg" is transformed into "1.jpg.wwpl," and "2.png" becomes "2.png.wwpl."

In addition to encrypting files, Wwpl generates a ransom note in the form of a text document named "_readme.txt." The distribution of Wwpl may also involve other types of malware designed to steal information.

The ransom note underscores that the decryption process relies entirely on specialized decryption software and a unique key. It instructs victims to communicate with the perpetrators using the provided email addresses (support@freshmail.top or datarestorehelp@airmail.cc) for more comprehensive guidance.

Furthermore, within the ransom note, two different amounts of money ($980 and $490) are mentioned, suggesting that victims might qualify for a reduced price for the decryption tools if they establish contact with the attackers within a 72-hour timeframe.
