Bowd Ransomware is a New Djvu Variant
Bowd ransomware is yet another ransomware clone using Djvu code and copying the Djvu ransom note template.
The new version will encrypt the victim system, scrambling almost every file on it. Once encrypted, files will receive the ".bowd" extension, which also serves as the ransomware's name, as it has no other distinctive characteristics. The encryption process will turn a file named "image.png" into "image.png.bowd".
The ransom note is deposited inside a plain text file with the name "_readme.txt" and asks for $490 in initial ransom payment, which is doubled to $980 if the ransom is not paid within 72 hours. The full note goes as follows:
