Watch Out for the 'Windows Defender' Email Scam
Scammers are sending out malicious spam emails containing fake Windows Defender "subscription renewal" messages, claiming to originate from Microsoft. Thankfully, the scam's text is so poorly put together by people who can barely speak English that it will likely not affect many victims.
After slapping a fake Windows Defender logo above the email and a scary large sum that the victim is supposedly going to be billed if he doesn't call the fake support number, the scam gets right to the good stuff.
"Yes, it's time for another year of safe hand secure computing experience" is what the very first sentence reads. With language that bad, it's difficult to imagine anyone would fall for this scam, given that it's trying to convince you it is official Microsoft correspondence.
"Your annual maintenance contract with us is set to renew", the scam goes on, in the same unrelentingly funny and grammatically incorrect tone. After another couple of funny sentences, the scam lists a fake support phone number you need to call to cancel your expensive but fake "contract renewal".
