Remove Willow Ransomware
The Willow Ransomware is a dangerous piece of malware whose author calls themselves the 'Willow Wolf.' They claim to have encrypted the majority of the victim's files. Allegedly, the only option to recover these files is to pay a hefty ransom amount. This particular variant requests a ransom payment of about 0.147 Bitcoin. However, we assure you that you should never agree to send money to cybercriminals. Users who agree to do this usually end up having their money stolen.
The Willow Ransomware may be spread online through fake downloads, misleading content, email spam, social media spam, or other dubious files. You should ensure the safety of your system and your data by using an up-to-date anti-malware application at all times. In addition to this, you might also want to use backup services in order to have backup copies of your data in case it gets encrypted or damaged.
Files that the Willow Ransomware locks are marked with the '.willow' extension. The threat also drops the ransom note 'READMEPLEASE.txt' and replaces the victim's desktop wallpaper. However, the information that the criminals provide is not sufficient. They do not list any contact details and, instead, tell the victim to pay a ransom fee via Bitcoin.
However, even if you end up paying, you will be unable to acquire the decryptor or ask the attackers for help. It certainly looks as if they have no intention to help any of their victims – they are only interested in getting Bitcoin. If you are a victim of this file-locker, you should run an antivirus scanner immediately. After this, start recovering files from a backup, or explore alternative data recovery options.
