Wessy Ransomware Will Encrypt Your System

During the examination of new malicious files, our researchers identified the Wessy ransomware. This type of malware encrypts data with the intention of demanding a ransom for its subsequent decryption.

Upon conducting a test execution of Wessy on our trial system, it proceeded to encrypt files, affixing a ".wessy" extension to their original filenames. For instance, a file previously named "1.jpg" was transformed into "1.jpg.wessy," and a similar alteration occurred for all files that were locked.

Following the completion of this encryption process, Wessy altered the desktop wallpaper and generated a ransom message named "READ_ME.txt." The note communicated that essential files such as databases, documents, and photos had been encrypted. As a demonstration of recovery feasibility, the ransom note mentioned the decryption of three files at no cost.

To initiate the decryption process, a ransom payment is required, amounting to 100 USD worth of assets in the Pet Simulator 99 video game on the Roblox platform. Alternatively, if the victim lacks the specified assets, or prefers another method, they can make a payment of 100 USD in Litecoin (LTC) cryptocurrency.
