What is StandardVirtue Adware?
StandardVirtue is a piece of adware or an ad-supported application that can crop up on your Mac computer. It belongs to the broader family of AdLoad adware that can affect Macs.
StandardVirtue is an app that will show up in your Applications folder, with its very generic icon and nondescript name, chosen specifically to help it blend in better. There are dozens of variants of what is practically one and the same adware, distributed under different names. Variants are named by stringing two words together and the results are usually nonsensical. The name StandardVirtue makes this more than obvious.
StandardVirtue has a single purpose - to deliver ads to your Mac. On one hand, this will waste bandwidth. On the other hand, a lot of the ads shown through similar adware apps are sourced through rogue advertising networks.
Such rogue ads can link to malicious or misleading websites, questionable content and potentially unwanted apps, as well as scam and phishing pages. This is why it's advisable to clean your Mac of all adware.
Luckily, in most cases, doing this is as simple as dragging the adware application, whether it's StandardVirtue or one of its dozens of clones, onto the Trash and then cleaning your Trash.
