Remove SkillManager
SkillManager for Macs is a fake application, which might show up on your system randomly. The good news is that it is not malware, so you should not consider it to be a security risk. However, antivirus products do detect it as a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) and we will tell you why this happens.
SkillManager does not have an official website or developer associated with it. The deceptive app is propagated through fake downloads, misleading ads, and software bundles. Users often install it accidentally when trying to run free apps, or when downloading installers from non-trustworthy sources. Once running, SkillManager will automatically modify the settings of Web browsers in order to promote affiliated sites. Typically, PUPs like SkillManager tend to promote low-quality search engines by configuring them as the browser's new tab or search service. These redirects will have an adverse impact on the online experience of users.
If the Web browser on your Mac is behaving weirdly and redirecting you to random sites, then we advise you to check for the presence of PUPs or browser hijackers. The best way to remove SkillManager and similar apps is to run an up-to-date security scanner.
Keep in mind that Macs are not immune to intrusive software – there are plenty of PUPs able to get around the built-in security features of your Mac. To stop them from bothering you, you should add an extra layer of security by using a reputable security product.
