Securitycheckpanel.com Uses Fake Virus Warnings to Feed You Ads
Securitycheckpanel dot com is a misleading website that uses simple scare tactics to push ads in your browser.
The page at Securitycheckpanel dot com is filled with virus warnings and image boxes, tailored to mimic the look of an antivirus application's windows and interfaces. The fake interface windows are filled with dire warnings about how badly infected your system is and about how you have no less than half a dozen "viruses" on it.
This is all fake and is intended to scare the user into submission. Similar misleading websites will often bring up the browser's "allow notifications" dialog box, hoping the scared user will click "allow" without thinking. Push notification functionality is commonly abused by misleading sites to push ads into the user's browser.
The biggest issue with this behavior is that a lot of similar misleading sites work in conjunction with rogue ad networks and deliver their ads. This means the ads shown may link to questionable content, scams, other untrustworthy sites or potentially unwanted programs.
Remember that no online web page can have any information about the infection or safety status of your system. Every single time you see a website warning you that your PC is infected, this is either a scam or an attempt to scare you and get you to do something you should not be doing.
