SearchInternetResults Adware

We came across SearchInternetResults, an unauthorized application, as part of our routine examination of newly submitted files.

Upon investigation, we determined that this application falls into the category of adware, specifically belonging to the AdLoad malware family. Its primary purpose is to inundate users with unwanted and misleading advertisements.

Adware functions by enabling the display of third-party graphical content, such as pop-ups, overlays, coupons, surveys, etc., on websites and various interfaces that users visit.

It's worth noting that specific conditions may need to be met for software of this nature to exhibit advertisements, such as having a compatible browser or system or visiting particular websites. However, even if SearchInternetResults does not actively display ads, its mere presence on a device poses a threat.

The advertisements shown by adware tend to promote online scams, untrustworthy or harmful software, and sometimes even malware. Clicking on some of these ads can trigger scripts that initiate stealthy downloads or installations.

It's important to emphasize that while legitimate products or services may occasionally appear in these ads, they are unlikely to be officially endorsed in this manner. More often than not, such endorsements are carried out by scammers who exploit affiliate programs to gain unauthorized commissions.

While AdLoad applications typically possess browser-hijacking capabilities, our analysis did not reveal such traits in the case of SearchInternetResults.

Furthermore, adware typically includes data-tracking functionalities, and this may apply to the SearchInternetResults app as well. The data of interest may encompass browsing and search histories, internet cookies, login credentials, personal information, financial data, and more. This collected information can then be shared with or sold to third parties.
