Remove SearchBrowserSky
SearchBrowserSky is a dubious Mac application, which may cause all sorts of annoying issues and changes that seem impossible to fix. The first important thing to mention about this app is that users might install it unknowingly. This usually happens through a fake downloader or update – for example, the SearchBrowserSky may often be promoted via fake Flash Player installers or updaters. Furthermore, the installer of the SearchBrowserSky may be featured in low-quality software bundles, which uses misleading instructions to convince users to enable the installation of 3rd-party software. Regardless of the delivery mechanism, the consequences of installing SearchBrowserSky are always identical.
The first thing that SearchBrowserSky does is to modify Web browser settings so that the browser redirects users to 3rd-party search services regularly. These redirects typically occur when the user tries to open a new tab, or to initiate a search through the address bar. If this is not annoying enough, SearchBrowserSky may also set up a new macOS Launch Agent, therefore granting itself persistence. This way, the Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) starts automatically even if the system reboots.
Last but not least, some users complain that SearchBrowserSky takes abnormally large amounts of hardware resources as well. Typically, such PUPs consume barely any RAM and CPU cycles, but SearchBrowserSky's appears to be different- One user reports that the SearchBrowserSky app was taking over 2GBs of their available RAM. Needless to say, this can greatly hinder the system's performance, and it is another reason to remove SearchBrowserSky as soon as possible.
