Remove PPHG Ransomware
PPHG Ransomware is a STOP Ransomware version, which might infect your computer through malicious files that have been disguised as normal apps, documents, or media. Criminals behind ransomware attacks often explore various malware propagation tactics to enhance their reach – email spam, pirated downloads, fake apps, etc. The PPHG Ransomware, in particular, appears to rely heavily on email spam to reach as many users as possible. The criminals' message claims to contain an important attachment that looks like a legitimate document. However, once opened, it prompts users to enable the execution of macros – if this permission is granted, the malicious script decodes and initializes the PPHG Ransomware.
Once the ransomware is active, it starts to encrypt various types of files, preventing users from accessing their contents. These files are easy to spot thanks to the '.pphg' extension added to their name. On top of this, the '_readme.txt' ransom note is dropped on the desktop. This document contains important information about the attack, as well as instructions from the attackers.
Just like other STOP Ransomware variants, this one also demands a ransom fee of $490. The criminals threaten to double the ransom amount if victims do not pay in the next three days. If you are considering paying the ransom fee, then we assure you that this is not something you should do. There is nothing stopping the criminals from taking payments without giving you the decryption tool you were promised – it is way too easy to get scammed.
Victims of the PPHG Ransomware need to use an anti-malware tool to terminate the threat, and then explore other data recovery options.
