Remove Piiq Ransomware
Piiq Ransomware is a new file-locker that users worldwide need to worry about. Its creators rely on the STOP Ransomware project to be the foundation of their malicious application. Unfortunately, this strategy may be very lucrative – dozens of STOP Ransomware variants have been bothering users worldwide. Some of them are the Mmnn Ransomware and the Sspq Ransomware – the Piiq Ransomware is the latest name to join their ranks.
Piiq Ransomware Operators Extort Users for Money
But what does the Piiq Ransomware do? If it manages to infiltrate a computer successfully, the file-locker will run in the background and execute several tasks:
- Encrypt the files of the victim – documents, archives, backups, databases, media, etc.
- Drop the ransom message '_readme.txt.'
- Apply the '.piiq' file extension to the files it locks.
- Delete Shadow Volume Copies and System Restore Points.
Needless to say, recovering from the Piiq Ransomware attack is not an easy task. There is no free decryption tool, and victims may need to experiment with alternative data recovery options. The criminals behind the project claim to have a working decryptor. However, they will only provide it to victims who agree to pay a ransom fee of $490. We advise you not to accept their offer as there is a significant chance that they will try to scam you.
The Piiq Ransomware's instructions ask the victim to send an email to manager@mailtemp.ch or helpmanager@airmail.cc for more details. We assure you that co-operating with ransomware creators is a terrible idea that you should not consider. Instead, run a malware removal tool to eliminate the Piiq Ransomware. After this, restore files from a backup or use alternative data recovery tools and options.
