Online-guard.com Uses Fake Scare Tactic to Push Ads

ads adware

Online-guard dot com is a misleading rogue website that attempts to scare visitors with fake warnings and at the same time tries to implant annoying ads in their browser.

The page at online-guard dot com will show a fake warning box telling you that "You've visited illegal infected website". Even at this point, the bad grammar should be a giveaway that something is not quite right.

The site abuses legitimate software logos and brand names associated with antivirus software products, in an attempt to look credible and lend an air of believability to the fake warnings.

Along with the fake warning messages, the page will bring up the browser's default "allow notifications" prompt. Combining this with the sense of urgency to act created by the fake virus warnings will often cause visitors to click "allow" without thinking.

This will only allow the website to push intrusive, annoying and potentially dangerous ads inside your browser. Those ads are commonly sourced from rogue ad networks and can expose you to further malicious content and pages.

The best thing you can do if you end up on a page that claims it has detected viruses on your system is to just quickly close your browser and never look back at the fake warnings.
