Is One Updater a Dangerous Program?

potentially unwanted program (PUP)

One Updater is a dubious application, which appears to show up on Windows machines unexpectedly. Its users often notice it because it crashes unexpectedly, or because it consumes significant resources according to the Windows Task Manager. But what is One Updater really, and does it have anything to do with important updates?

One Updater is not Important Software

First of all, we'd like to make it clear that One Updater does not belong to a reputable software suite. In fact, it appears that this app is being spread via fake downloads, software bundles, misleading ads, and other deceptive content. Once installed, it runs in the background. It may also manipulate Windows settings to ensure that it starts automatically when the computer powers on.

We have reasons to believe that One Updater might be a lesser component, part of a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) or browser hijacker. One Updater could be responsible for keeping the app in question up-to-date, or to feed it with updated configuration. Regardless of the purpose, we assure you that One Updater is not a useful application – spotting it on your system is not dangerous, but it is not good either.

If you found One Updater and wish to remove it, use a suitable security scanner to check your entire device for intrusive software and files.
