What is Presenoker and Is It Dangerous?
A lot of users have been really confused about a threat detection name they have spotted on their Windows systems. Windows Defender would suddenly pipe up and give a warning about a threat labeled as PUA:Win32/Presenoker.
Presenoker is the name of a potentially unwanted application, as the PUA:Win32 designation indicated. Potentially unwanted applications occupy a nebulous grey area between legitimate applications and dangerous, full-blown malware. Browser hijackers and some types of adware are usually classified as potentially unwanted applications.
While PUAs will have a generally adverse effect on your system's performance or user experience, they are not considered a significant threat to your data and overall system safety.
Presenoker will usually be found in an executable file with a strange name. Windows Defender might locate this executable file either in your default Downloads directory or inside C:\Users\[username]\AppData or a subfolder of AppData.
The fact that Windows Defender found a specifically named potentially unwanted application inside the file in question should answer the question about whether the contents of the file are desirable or not. When it comes to the severity of the potential issues that might arise from the contents of the file, the answer is more difficult. The PUA contained inside is likely to be a browser hijacker which may be able to change your browser's default search engine and hijack your search queries.
It is relatively easy to steer clear of similar packages containing PUAs if you follow a few simple rules. Make sure to only download software installers from trusted websites and well-curated download portals. Steer clear of less reputable free download websites that may distribute bundle installers where PUAs are packaged with legitimate software, inside the same bundle.
