Nwgen Ransomware Asks for $150,000 Worth of Monero
File-encryption Trojans are one of the most dangerous piece of malware you could encounter online. They are designed to lock you out of your files, and then extort you for money. The Nwgen Ransomware, for example, is a newly discovered file-locker that specializes in this exact type of attack. It may infect your device because of interactions with shady files, fake downloads, pirated content, etc. The goal of the Nwgen Ransomware is to encrypt your data, preventing you from accessing it – and then asking for a ransom payment.
The Nwgen Ransomware will also append the '.nwgen' suffix to files it locks, and then create the ransom note 'How To Restore Your Files.txt.' In addition to this, Nwgen Ransomware will wipe out Shadow Volume Copies and System Restore data to further reduce the victim's chances of recovering.
The Nwgen Ransomware Ransom Note
Typically, ransomware creators ask for a few hundred dollars, or maybe a few thousand in some cases. The Nwgen Ransomware creators, however, appear to have a bolder request. According to their ransom message, a decryptor would cost victims $150,000, and they will have to pay via Monero (XMR.) The criminals provide two ways to contact them – the Telegram @redeyeg0d, and the email yourd34d@templar.com.
Needless to say, paying $150,000 to anonymous criminals is out of the question. You should explore alternative data recovery options that could help you restore your data.
