Remove Newnet Ransomware

The Newnet Ransomware is yet another rebrand of the MedusaLocker Ransomware. It uses the same file-encryption routine that, unfortunately, is impossible to decipher via free utilities. Victims of this ransomware may need to seek alternative data recovery options, such as restoring from a backup. The criminals claim to have a working decryptor, but you should not trust them under any circumstance. They demand to receive an upfront payment through Bitcoin in exchange for their help. However, they provide no reassurance that they will end up fulfilling their end of the deal.

The Newnet Ransomware applies the '.newnet' extension to files it locks. To make matters worse, it deletes Shadow Volume Copies and System Restore Points. These two measures limit the victim's data recovery options, and further reduces the effectiveness of some data restoration software. Finally, it drops a ransom note, which explains the attack – HOW_TO_RECOVER_DATA.html.

Newnet Ransomware Criminals Demand a Hefty Ransom Payment

According to the attackers, victims have only one option to get their data back – pay the ransom fee. They ask all victims to contact them via help_24_decr1@outlook.com or help_24_decr2@outlook.com for assistance. We advise you to avoid doing this, as nothing good can come out of it. The criminals may continue to lie to you, saying that using 3rd-party data recovery tools may render your files useless. This is a common fear-mongering strategy that ransomware operators use.

If you are one of Newnet Ransomware's victims, you should run an anti-malware tool to eliminate it immediately. After this, try to restore your files through a backup, or by using some of the best data recovery software to use in case of ransomware attacks. Last but not least, make sure to protect yourself against future attacks of this type. Use reputable antivirus software, and remember not to interact with files of unknown origin. This especially applies to email attachments – the most popular method of spreading malware.
