What is Ner Ransomware?

Ner ransomware is the name of a newly discovered strain of file-encrypting malware. There doesn't seem to be any indication that Ner belongs to any particular family of ransomware variants.

The ransomware will encrypt media, document and archive files on a target system, making them unreadable. The files receive a multi-string extension once encrypted, consisting of the victim ID code, the email used by the ransomware operators and the ".ner" extension.

This means that a file originally named "picture.jpg" will turn into "picture.jpg[victim ID string].[malware operator email].ner.

The ransom note is dropped inside a file named !!!HOW_TO_DECRYPT!!!.txt and includes threats to leak sensitive files exfiltrated in the attack.
