Remove MRDC Ransomware
The Matrix Ransomware is back with a bang. After the release of the DEMS Ransomware in the last days of August, a new variant has been spotted just recently. The threat, dubbed MRDC Ransomware, uses Matrix Ransomware's file-encryption method and attack technique. Unfortunately, its victims may not be able to recover their data because the encryption is impossible to reverse via free tools. If the MRDC Ransomware ends up on your device, you might need to explore alternative data recovery options. Unfortunately, those might not always work flawlessly – the only reliable way to undo MRDC Ransomware's damage is to restore the lost files from a backup. The same applies to other Matrix variants like the
The MRDC Ransomware may reach your device through pirated content, fake installers, and updaters, or other misleading content. It is also not uncommon for ransomware creators to reach out to their victims through deceptive email attachments. If the MRDC Ransomware takes over your system, it will immediately encrypt documents, videos, archives, and other media. These files are recognizable by the extension '[markusdoc88@criptext.com].<VICTIM ID>.MRDC.'
Matrix-MRDC Ransomware is not Decryptable
Of course, ransomware creators also provide their victims with information about the attack. The MRDC Ransomware does this via the file MRDC_README.rtf. It instructs the victim to avoid alternative decryptors because this may cause more damage. Instead, they want to receive a ransom payment via Bitcoin. They also urge victims to message them at markusdoc88@criptext.com, markusdoc88@yahoo.com, or markusdoc88@tutanota.com.
As you can probably guess, co-operating with cybercriminals is not a good idea. They may ask you for a lot of money, and even if you pay, you may still end up scammed. The best thing victims of the MRDC Ransomware can do is to run an anti-malware scanner to disrupt the attack and eliminate the threat. However, this will not undo the damage that the MRDC Ransomware has already caused. To fix this, they should restore files from a backup or use other data recovery tools.
