What is Hruu Ransomware?
The Hruu ransomware is the latest arrival in a long string of new Djvu ransomware variants that have been identified in recent months.
The ransomware will encrypt the majority of non-essential files on the victim system, including popular media and document file formats. Once encrypted, the files receive the .hruu extension, which is also used for the name of the ransomware, to differentiate it from the dozens of other Djvu clones.
The ransomware will drop its ransom demand in plain text format, inside a file called "_readme.txt". The ransom demand is in line with other recent Djvu clones - the hackers ask for $490 if paid within 72 hours, with the ransom increasing twofold to $980 if payment is attempted beyond this period.
Of course, just like with every other strain of ransomware, there are zero guarantees that victims will receive a working decryption tool from the hackers, even if "free" decryption of a single file is offered in the note.
