Energy.exe Cryptominer
Energy.exe is the name of a piece of malware that is categorized as a cryptominer. This type of malware abuses the victim system's resources while staying in the background as quietly as possible. The victim system's hardware is used to mine cryptocurrency for the malware operator.
Cryptominers like Energy.exe quietly work in the background, making illegal use of the victim computer's CPU and GPU processing power to mine some sort of cryptocurrency that goes into the wallet of the malware's operator. Signs of having a cryptominer on your system, whether it's Energy.exe or some similar piece of malware, would be a slow response when you attempt to open files, sluggish and choppy mouse cursor movement, and general system slowdown.
Energy.exe will also cause your CPU and GPU to run at considerably higher temperatures than normal, even when your computer seems to be doing nothing, idle at the desktop. You can hear your fans speeding up and making more noise, to make up for the increased heat produced by the hardware as a result of the cryptominer abusing it.
Opening up Task Manager and looking at the Energy.exe process, you will find that it is using inordinate amounts of CPU cycles, taking up a large percentage of your CPU.
Similar malware can get on your system if you attempt to download cracked software from websites hosting illegal content.
Never trust executable files downloaded from the web and always keep an anti-malware suite updated and active when you browse to avoid infections similar to Energy.exe and other varieties of cryptominer malware.
