DynamicHelper Adware

adware

During our analysis of new file submissions, our research team stumbled upon the DynamicHelper application. Further investigation revealed it to be adware associated with the AdLoad malware family. Adware, known for its intrusive advertising tactics, poses potential risks beyond simply displaying ads.

The chief goal of adware is to make profit for its creators by displaying third-party graphical content such as banners, pop-ups, overlays, and surveys on various interfaces, including websites and desktops.

It's important to note that certain conditions may need to be met for adware to unleash its intrusive ad campaigns, such as specific browser/system compatibility, user geolocation, or visits to particular websites. However, regardless of whether DynamicHelper actively displays ads, its presence on a system poses a threat to both device and user safety.

Ads delivered by adware can lead users to online scams, promote untrustworthy or harmful software, and even facilitate the distribution of malware through stealthy downloads or installations triggered by clicking on the ads.

It's crucial to remain vigilant, as any seemingly legitimate content encountered through these ads is likely promoted by scammers exploiting affiliate programs to earn illegitimate commissions.

Furthermore, ad-supported software often possesses data-tracking capabilities, which may also apply to DynamicHelper. The collected data can include visited URLs, viewed webpages, search queries, internet cookies, usernames, passwords, personally identifiable information, financial details, and more. This data can be shared with or sold to third parties, raising concerns about user privacy and security.

What are AdLoad Adware and its Many Clones?

AdLoad adware is a type of unwanted software designed to display unwanted advertisements on infected devices. It belongs to the broader category of adware, which generates revenue for its creators by delivering intrusive ads to users' screens. AdLoad adware often employs aggressive advertising techniques, including pop-ups, banners, and redirects, to monetize user traffic.

AdLoad adware has gained notoriety for its persistent and stealthy behavior, often evading detection by traditional antivirus programs. It may also exhibit additional malicious functionalities, such as browser hijacking, data tracking, and even facilitating the distribution of other malware.

As for its clones, AdLoad adware has spawned numerous variants and iterations over time. These clones often share similar characteristics and behavior patterns with the original AdLoad, but may also incorporate new features or tactics to evade detection and increase their effectiveness in delivering advertisements or performing other malicious activities.
