Download Checker Adware

ads adware

Download Checker is the generic and nondescript name used by a browser extension that functions as adware.

Adware is a type of potentially unwanted software that will usually install on your system without your permission and without sufficient disclosure of the install process. Once installed, adware will cause unsolicited advertisements to display while browsing.

Ads may be displayed in the form of pop-ups, banners or embeds on pages you browse, located in spots where there should be no ads.

A lot of adware is distributed in the form of supposedly helpful little browser addons that a user would install without much thought. In a lot of cases, those seemingly harmless browser addons and extensions can potentially cause issues.

Adware apps often source their ad content through rogue ad networks. This means the ads you will see displayed may link to questionable content, unsafe pages, scam or phishing portals and the installers of other potentially unwanted apps.

If you spot an extension called Download Checker installed in your browser, displayed with a speedometer icon next to its name, you would do well to remove it on the spot.
