Remove ChupaCabra Ransomware
ChupaCabra is a new file-encryption Trojan, which has been active for over a month. Unfortunately, it appears to use a secure file-encryption algorithm, which renders 3rd-party decryptors useless. The purpose of the threat is to lock victims out of their files and then offer to restore their access in exchange for a ransom payment. Of course, it goes without saying that you should never trust ransomware operators – they may take your money without responding to your messages.
Threats like the ChupaCabra Ransomware may be spread online via fake downloads, pirated software, fake ads, deceptive email attachments, and other shady content. If the ChupaCabra Ransomware manages to infiltrate a system successfully, the victim might not notice anything out of the ordinary at first. This is because the ChupaCabra Ransomware will work in the background to encrypt files and then mark their names with the extension '.ChupaCabra.' However, encrypting data is not the only task that this file-locker performs. It also tries to delete Shadow Volume Copies and System Restore points, which would otherwise be able to help users recover some of their data.
0.03 Bitcoin for the ChupaCabra Ransomware Decryptor
After all of ChupaCabra Ransomware's tasks are complete, it drops the ransom message 'HowToDecrypt.txt.' This file instructs the victim to pay approximately 0.03 Bitcoin to the wallet of the attackers and then send them a message via Telegram. The crooks can be reached by messaging the handle @ C_h_u_p_a_K_a_b_r_a.
It is important to note that ChupaCabra Ransomware's creators do not offer any sort of proof that they have what it takes to decrypt their data. It is entirely possible that they might be trying to scam people out of their money. It is not uncommon for ransomware operators to have no intention of helping out their 'clients' once the ransom fee is paid. Other file-lockers that behave in a similar fashion are the DECcenter Ransomware and the Myday Ransomware.
Victims of the ChupaCabra Ransomware should use a reputable anti-malware scanner to eliminate the infection and prevent it from causing more damage. Once they do this, they can experiment with popular data recovery methods and software.
