ChatSAI Hijacks Your Browser's Search Engine
During our investigation of the ChatSAI application, we found that it acts as a browser hijacker. Its main objective is to force users to utilize chatsai.nextjourneyai.com, a phony search engine. ChatSAI is known to modify the settings of web browsers and users typically download and install browser hijackers unintentionally.
ChatSAI changes the default search engine, homepage, and new tab to chatsai.nextjourneyai.com, which is a fake search engine that directs users to gsearch.co via track.clickcrystal.com. Gsearch.co is a questionable search engine that generates unreliable search results.
Using fake search engines can result in numerous hazards, such as identity theft, malware infections, misleading information, search history tracking, and privacy concerns. It is crucial to use reputable and reliable search engines to safeguard your personal information and ensure that your search results are precise.
It should be noted that some hijackers have the ability to reinstall themselves even after being deleted, making it difficult for users to get rid of them completely. This can be frustrating and can cause users to feel powerless in taking back control of their browser.
How Can a Browser Hijacker Swap Your Browser's Default Search Engine?
A browser hijacker can swap your browser's default search engine by modifying the browser's settings. When a user installs a browser hijacker, the software alters certain browser settings such as the default search engine, homepage, and new tab page. The hijacker then sets the user's preferred search engine to a fake or malicious one, such as the case with the ChatSAI application.
This makes the browser always direct the user to the fake search engine, even when the user tries to use a different search engine. The fake search engine then generates irrelevant or even harmful search results, which can expose users to various risks, including malware infections and identity theft.
