Remove BrowserState
BrowserState is a Mac application that you should not allow to run on your device. While it is not dangerous, it may bring unwanted changes to your computer. Although its name suggests that it has something to do with your browser's state of security and health, we assure you that BrowserState is not useful. If you use antivirus software on your Mac, you will see a message warning you that BrowserState is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP.) This is not a false positive, and it is 100% true – BrowserState is an intruder that you should remove immediately.
How Does BrowserState Work?
When a user installs this software, they will not notice anything out of the ordinary at first. This is because this PUP has one single purpose – to manipulate the settings of your default Web browser. It can do this regardless if you are using Safari, Chrome, or Firefox. The PUP changes the default new tab page and search engine with a low-quality website. The redirects it triggers are not dangerous, but they may hinder your ability to search and navigate the Web. Furthermore, the BrowserState redirects may often take you to ad-ridden pages.
Trying to undo the changes above does not work. The PUP will automatically undo any changes you make, forcing your browser to use the settings that BrowserState wants. Needless to say, this warrants this software's removal.
Taking care of this task manually is not easy either. We suggest running a Mac security tool to help you with this challenge. A full system scan should be enough to find and remove all of BrowserState's files, ensuring it is gone for good. Once you do this, you should try to restore your browser settings again.
