Dealing with the Bbbe Ransomware Attack

ransomware

Bbbe Ransomware is a new and dangerous file-locker that is part of the STOP/Djvu family. But what does this mean for victims? Unfortunately, this is bad news. The Bbbe Ransomware attack is guaranteed to encrypt a large portion of the victim's files. Every file that gets locked during the attack will have its name changed to include the suffix '.bbbe.' Just like any other STOP variant, this one also drops a ransom note called '_readme.txt.' Victims will usually find this on their desktop.

How is the Bbbe Ransomware Spread?

Victims of such attacks often end up interacting with malicious files they downloaded from non-trustworthy sources. Often, malware like this might reside in game cracks, software activators, or other pirated content. As you can probably guess, interacting with such files is a bad idea if you value your online safety. They are well-known for hosting all sorts of malicious files, scams, and other deceptive content.

Once the Bbbe Ransomware attack is complete, the threat will demand a ransom payment from its victims. Its ransom message says that there are no alternative data recovery options, and paying a ransom fee would be the only viable option. If you believe that the Bbbe Ransomware has locked your files, you should not agree to send money to the criminals – they cannot be trusted. The Bbbe Ransomware attack is difficult to recover from fully – if you do not have a backup copy of your data, you might be unable to get all files back. Our advice is to start fixing the situation by using an up-to-date antivirus tool to terminate the file-locker permanently. Then, try out alternative data recovery options and tools.
