Pushmestar.com Pushes Potentially Harmful Ads
Pushmestar dot com is a misleading website that will attempt to flood your browser with ads, should you fall into its simple trap.
Landing on Pushmestar dot com, you will see a cute cartoon drawing of a robot, along with huge text telling you to "click allow if you are not a robot". This is not a legitimate anti-bot check, as this kind of security measure simply doesn't function this way.
The idea is to get the user to allow push notifications from the page at Pushmestar dot com so that this functionality can later be abused to spam the user's browser with ads. The issue with this is not just the presence of those ads, but the fact that a lot of misleading websites partner up with rogue ad networks.
Sourcing ads through rogue ad networks means those ads may link to other misleading websites, questionable online content, scams or phishing pages and other untrustworthy websites.
Avoiding all those issues before they can even materialize is easy - just make it a rule of thumb never to click any buttons or links unfamiliar websites ask you to the second you land on them.
