Protectdevice.org Uses Fake Virus Scares to Spam Ads
Protectdevice dot org is yet another misleading website that throws scary but fake virus warnings at visitors in an effort to scare them.
If you found your way to Protectdevice dot org, chances are that you clicked a rogue ad on a different page or landed on a bad redirect. Similar misleading pages will hardly ever show up in normal, legitimate search engine result pages.
Once you land on Protectdevice dot org, you will see an avalanche of scary but very fake warning messages, served up on the site as images, styled to look like the interface boxes of a legitimate anti-virus application.
All of those messages are fake and serve just to scare the user enough so they can click the "allow notifications" box that comes up when the site loads. This will give the page permission to spam your browser with intrusive and potentially harmful ads.
Misleading websites may often serve ads sourced from rogue ad networks, which means those ads may link to untrustworthy websites, scam or phishing pages and potentially unwanted programs.
To avoid all of those potential issues, just remember that an online web page can never know the security status of your system or scan it for viruses. Simply close similar fake warning pages when you see them and move on.
